Unpublishing, redirects and inactive ambassadors
Take an ambassador's pages down, choose where their visitors go, make them inactive, and bring them back.
When an ambassador steps back, you can take their pages down without losing anything they have raised. You choose where visitors to their pages go in the meantime. You can also make them inactive, which leaves them out of emails sent to the club's active ambassadors and supporters. Their goals, donations and supporters stay as they are either way.
Unpublish an ambassador
You can unpublish an ambassador whose profile is published.
- Open the club, select Members and open the ambassador.
- Select Unpublish. The Unpublish profile screen opens.
- Under "Should First name stay an active ambassador?", choose:
- Keep active: they stay an ambassador. They keep getting emails sent to the club's active ambassadors and supporters and stay in the club's ambassador count. You can publish them again at any time.
- Make inactive: they stop getting emails sent to the club's active ambassadors and supporters, leave the club's ambassador count and can't be published until you reactivate them.
- Under "Where should visitors to First name's pages go?", choose a redirect. The club's home page is chosen for you. The choices are described under "Choosing a redirect" below.
- Select Unpublish.
Unpublishing takes the ambassador's story and join pages down. Nothing is emailed to the ambassador or anyone else.
Make an unpublished ambassador inactive
If an ambassador is already unpublished but still active, you can make them inactive.
- On the ambassador's member page, select Make inactive.
- Check the redirect under "Where should visitors to First name's pages go?". Their current redirect is chosen for you.
- Select Make inactive.
The screen explains: "First name's pages are already down. Making them inactive stops the emails sent to the club's members and ambassadors and takes them out of the club's ambassador count. Their goals, donations and supporters stay as they are." Nothing is emailed. The emails it means are those sent to the club's active ambassadors and supporters; see What an inactive ambassador means.
What an inactive ambassador means
An inactive ambassador:
- has their story and join pages down, and visitors follow their redirect;
- doesn't get emails sent to the club's active ambassadors and supporters, such as those sent to All active ambassadors, and emails you send with Send email to on the members list;
- still gets organisation emails sent to a segment they belong to, including when Group contacts by club, if applicable is ticked, because those reach everyone in the segment whatever their membership status;
- still gets emails sent to the ambassador who referred a supporter, such as those from your organisation's default Supporter activated and Subscription cancelled automations when a supporter they referred becomes active or their recurring donation is cancelled (see Workflows and their steps for when that happens);
- isn't counted as one of the club's ambassadors;
- can't be published until you reactivate them.
Inactive ambassadors show as Inactive on the members list. Once a club has an inactive member, the list splits into Active and Inactive tabs. See The members list.
Choosing a redirect
You choose a redirect when you unpublish an ambassador or make them inactive. You can change it later in the Redirect panel (see below). The choices are:
- The club's home page.
- Another ambassador's page: then choose the ambassador under Select an ambassador. Only the club's other active, published ambassadors are offered, plus the ambassador already chosen, who is marked "(unpublished)" if they have since been unpublished. This choice appears only when there is someone to offer. If you don't pick anyone, saving fails with "Ambassador must be selected".
- An address you enter: type a web address such as www.example.org. If you leave out "https://", it is added for you. An address that isn't a web address is refused with "Address must be a web address, such as www.example.org".
- No redirect: visitors see Not Found. The screen warns that any external links to the ambassador's pages, such as links from social media or previous email campaigns, will return a "404 Not Found" response.
Visitors are sent to the redirect until the ambassador is published again. Publishing clears the redirect.
If you send visitors to another ambassador who is later unpublished too, visitors go on to wherever that ambassador's pages send them.
Change the redirect
The Redirect panel on an ambassador's member page shows where visitors to their pages are sent, for example "Visitors to First name's pages are sent to the club's home page." or "Visitors to First name's pages see Not Found."
While the ambassador is published, the panel says "A redirect can be set once First name is unpublished."
To change the redirect of an unpublished or inactive ambassador:
- On the Redirect panel, select Edit.
- Choose where visitors should go. The choices are the same as when you unpublish.
- Select Save changes.
Changing the redirect doesn't change whether the ambassador is active.
Reactivate an inactive ambassador
- On the inactive ambassador's member page, select Reactivate. The Reactivate ambassador screen opens.
- Under "How should First name come back?", choose:
- Reactivate: they are active again and stay unpublished. Their pages keep their current redirect until you publish them.
- Reactivate and publish: they are active again and their profile is published. If the club is live, their pages become public and they are sent the welcome email. This email is sent only while the "Ambassador published" workflow is switched on for the club, and never to an address Supporter Club has marked as undeliverable. If the club isn't live yet, their pages become public once it is.
- Select Reactivate.
Reactivate and publish is offered only when their profile is complete. If it isn't, the screen says "First name will be active again but can't be published yet. Their profile is missing:" and lists the missing items (a photo, an introduction message, a join message or a welcome message). Selecting Reactivate then reactivates them without publishing. Add the missing items in the Profile panel, then publish them as described in Adding and publishing an ambassador.
Adding and publishing an ambassador
Add an ambassador to a club, fill in their profile, publish it, and find their public page and short page link.
