The supporter page and supporter sign-in

How supporters and ambassadors reach their own membership page, what it shows, and how a supporter stops a recurring donation.

Every supporter and ambassador has their own membership page. It shows how the club and they themselves are doing, and it is where a supporter can stop a recurring donation. Use this page to answer questions from your supporters and ambassadors.

Reaching the membership page

The membership page is meant for the person it belongs to. There are three ways in:

  • The private link for an ambassador. On the ambassador's member page, the Profile panel shows an Ambassador admin page link. It signs the ambassador in and takes them straight to their membership page. Send it only to that ambassador. It stops working 24 hours after the panel shows it, so copy a fresh one each time. See Adding and publishing an ambassador.
  • The merge tag in an email. The "Management url" merge tag, written *|MEMBERSHIP_MANAGEMENT_URL|* in your organisation's default emails, gives the address of the membership page. What someone who isn't signed in sees depends on the membership:
    • For an ambassador's membership page, they are asked to log in first.
    • For a supporter's membership page, they see a "Not authorised" page with a Log in button. Once signed in, they can open the link again. (A supporter who hasn't paid yet is the exception, see below.)
  • Signing in. On the Log in to your account screen, the person enters their email address and selects Log in. They are emailed a login link. The link takes them to their ambassador membership page if they are an ambassador in any club. Otherwise it takes them to one of their membership pages. If they belong to more than one club, this may not be the club they expected. See Signing in.

Not every membership page is limited to its owner. Anyone who is signed in can open an ambassador's membership page, not only the ambassador. A supporter's membership page shows "Not authorised" to anyone signed in as someone else.

Someone who joined but hasn't paid yet doesn't need to sign in. Opening their membership page sends them back to their payment. If there is no payment waiting, it sends them to the story page of the ambassador who referred them.

What the page shows

At the top are the person's photo and name, and a View page button. For an ambassador, View page opens their story page. Supporters see the button too, but it only works for ambassadors.

Club numbers shows how the whole club is doing. Your numbers shows the same figures for this person. Each shows:

  • Raised, followed by the percentage of the goal when there is a target.
  • Matched and Impact, only when the club has matched donations turned on. See Goals and matched donations.
  • Target, followed by the target date if there is one. A dash means there is no target.
  • Supporters.

Stopping a recurring donation

A supporter can stop their own recurring donation from their membership page, but only when:

  • their recurring donation is active and set to renew; and
  • it is charged by Supporter Club on a card stored with PayWay or Payfast.

Recurring donations billed through Stripe can't be stopped from the membership page. The Your donation panel doesn't appear for them. See "When a Stripe supporter asks to stop giving" below.

When the conditions are met, the page shows Your donation, reading "You give amount every interval. Your next payment is due on date.", with a Stop your donation button.

To stop the donation, the supporter:

  1. Selects Stop your donation.
  2. Reads the Stop your donation screen. It says how much they give and how often, and "Your membership runs to date, which you have already paid for. After that, nothing more will be taken." It also warns: "This cannot be undone. Your saved payment details are removed at the bank for good, and giving again means setting up a new donation."
  3. Selects Stop my donation to confirm, or Keep giving to go back without changing anything.

What stopping a donation does

  • No further payments are taken.
  • The membership isn't cut short. The end date of the period already paid for stays the same. Stopping doesn't refund anything.
  • Supporter Club asks the payment provider to remove the supporter's stored card details. Once removed, they can't be used again. To give again, the supporter must set up a new donation.
  • On the supporter's member page in the admin, the Subscription panel then shows only its heading. See The members list.
  • Your organisation's default "Subscription cancelled" automation sends three emails: to the supporter ("Confirmation: Cancellation of Your Membership"), to the ambassador who referred them ("Supporter Cancelled Membership") and to your organisation's administrators ("Supporter Cancelled Membership"). They are sent only while that workflow is switched on for the club, and never to an address Supporter Club has marked as undeliverable. For donations paid through PayWay, the same emails are sent when the supporter removes their stored card at the bank, or a scheduled payment is refused because the card is gone. When a recurring donation through Payfast ends for those reasons, no cancellation emails are sent. See Organisation automations.

When a Stripe supporter asks to stop giving

You can't stop a recurring donation billed through Stripe anywhere in Supporter Club. The supporter's membership page doesn't offer it, and the admin has no button to cancel a recurring donation for any payment provider: the Subscription panel on their member page only shows the arrangement.

If a supporter whose recurring donation is billed through Stripe asks to stop giving, contact Supporter Club through the person or email address you dealt with when your organisation's account was set up. There is no support form in the admin.
