Versions, previewing and publishing

How drafts and published versions work for pages, assets and documents, and how to publish, discard, look back at history or start a design again.

Pages, assets and documents keep versions. The published version is the live one: it is what visitors see, and what Supporter Club uses when it makes an asset or a document. You make changes to a design on a draft, and those changes reach no one until you publish it.

The theme is the exception. A design is not given its own copy of the theme: every page, asset and document uses its theme as the theme is now. If you change a theme, including from the Theme panel in the designer while you work on a draft, the change applies straight away to every design that uses that theme, published ones included. See Themes, colours and logos.

Published and draft

  • Every page, asset and document is created with a published version, so there is always a live version to fall back on.
  • You can only edit a draft. A published version opens read-only.
  • Design on a card opens the most recent version: the draft if there is one, otherwise the published version.
  • When you publish a draft, it becomes the live version. The version that was live before is kept as Archived.

Start a draft: Edit

  1. On the card, select Design.
  2. On the published version, select Edit.

Edit makes a draft copy of the published version and opens it.

On a page, document or asset that Supporter Club has newly created from its template, Edit does not appear until Supporter Club has finished writing its starting text. Come back to it a little later.

Make it live: Publish

On a draft, select Publish. The draft becomes the live version straight away.

  • For a page, you see a confirmation such as "Published “Club home page” — it is now the live version of this page."
  • A page's title, description and share image are part of the version, so changes you made in Page settings go live when you publish. See Pages.

The preview image on the card is updated after you publish. It is made in the background, so it can take a moment to change.

Throw a draft away: Discard changes

  1. On the draft, select More, then Discard changes.
  2. The dialog asks "Are you sure you want to discard this version?" and warns: "You will lose all changes you've made, and this action can't be undone."
  3. Select Continue.

The draft is deleted and the live version stays as it was.

Check before you publish

  • Canvas size: pages can be viewed at Phone, Tablet or Laptop width. On a document the canvas size is not only a preview: choosing a size saves it as the document's page size straight away, even on the published version, and the PDF is made at that size. See Documents and receipts.
  • Preview as an ambassador: on the Ambassador story page and on assets, choose one of the club's ambassadors from Select ambassador to see the design with their details (and, on the story page, their photos).
  • Open page: on the Pages list, More > Open page opens the live page in a new tab, where the page has a public address. See Pages.

Look back: View history

View history is on the More menu of:

  • an asset's published version (not its draft)
  • a document's published version and its draft

It opens a read-only view with Versions, a list of every version with when it was made, who made it (or "System" where Supporter Club made it), and whether it is Published or Archived. Drafts aren't listed. Select a version to look at it. Select Close to go back.

In an asset's history, Edit opens the version you are looking at in the asset builder.

In the page builder there is no View history.

Start again from another design

These options are on the More menu of a published page or document. Each one makes a new draft. Your live version is not changed until you publish that draft.

Pages

  • Replace with another page's design: choose a page under "Select a page to copy the design from", then select Replace design. You can choose any page of the same type in any of your organisation's clubs. "The draft takes its design, title and description from the chosen page's latest published version." It also takes that version's share image setting.
  • Reset to the latest template: "The draft starts from the latest template, with its default title and description." Select Reset to template.

Documents

  • Replace with another document's design: choose a document under "Select a document to copy the design from", then select Replace design. You can choose a document of the same type from any of your organisation's clubs. "This replaces this document's design with the selected document's most recently published version. The current content is discarded, and this can't be undone."
  • Reset to the latest template: "Starting fresh from the latest platform template creates a new version without your existing content. The current content is discarded, and this can't be undone." Select Reset to template.

Assets don't have these options.

Copying the design of a page made for one ambassador

Beta

This feature is in beta and may not be available for your account yet.

In Replace with another page's design, pages made for a single ambassador are listed too, labelled with the ambassador's name. See Pages for a single ambassador.
