Launching your first club
The club set-up checklist, from a new club to going live.
Every club has its own list of set-up steps, "Get your club set up". It takes a new club to going live. This page explains each step and what ticks it. Your first club works the same way as every later one.
Before you start, create the club. See Creating a club. When the club is created, you land on its Home page.
Open the club's task list
Inside a club, a panel at the foot of the sidebar shows "Get your club set up" and how many steps are done, for example "1 of 5 steps done", with a progress bar. Select the panel to open the club's Get started screen.
The panel disappears once every step is done. An archived club has no task list: the panel is not shown, and opening the club's Get started screen takes you to the club's Home page instead.
A step that is done has no button, and shows a tick as long as it can be started. A step that can't be started shows no tick, and if it isn't done, its button is greyed out. Steps are ticked automatically as soon as their condition is met.
The steps
Describe your club's purpose
Button: Add purpose. It opens the club's Settings > General.
In the General panel, press Edit and write a sentence or two in Purpose about what the club raises money for. Press Save changes.
The step is ticked once the club has a purpose. A club that is already live counts as done. See Club settings.
Add your first ambassador
Button: Add ambassador. It opens the form for adding an ambassador to this club.
The step is ticked once the club has at least one ambassador. See Adding and publishing an ambassador.
Design your club's pages
Button: Start designing. It opens the club's Pages.
This step can't be started until the club has an ambassador.
A new club is created with published pages, and these count towards this step, so in practice the step is ticked as soon as the club has an ambassador. You don't have to change a page first, but check your pages before you go live. See Pages and Versions, previewing and publishing.
Finish setting up your organisation
Button: Continue setup. It opens your organisation's task list, "Get your organisation set up".
The step is ticked when every step of the organisation task list is done. A club that is already live counts as done. See The organisation task list.
Before you go live
Check the amounts supporters can choose when they join. See Membership options and intervals.
Until a club is live, its donations are simulated: no card is charged.
Make your club live
Button: Go live. It opens the Publish club screen, where you check the club, notify its ambassadors and publish it. See Publishing, archiving and redirecting.
The Go live button works only when both of these are true:
- Describe your club's purpose, Design your club's pages and Finish setting up your organisation are all done, and
- every currency the club accepts reaches, through your organisation's payment routes, a payment provider whose status is Ready.
Until the first condition is met, the button is greyed out with no message.
When those three steps are done but payments still stop the club going live, the step shows one reason and a link to fix it:
| Message | Link |
|---|---|
| "This club can't go live yet — connect your organisation's payment account so it can take real donations before you publish." | Go to payments |
| "This club can't go live yet — your organisation's payment connection hasn't been cleared to take real donations yet." | Go to payments |
| "This club can't go live yet — your organisation's payment connection has had its clearance withdrawn." | Go to payments |
| "This club can't go live yet — point one of this club's payment routes at your organisation's cleared payment connection before you publish." | Choose the currencies this club accepts |
| "This club can't go live yet — some of the currencies it accepts don't reach your organisation's cleared payment connection, so donations in those currencies would not be charged. Choose the currencies this club accepts." | Choose the currencies this club accepts |
| "This club can't go live yet — some of the currencies it accepts have no payment route at all, so donations in those currencies would fail. Choose the currencies this club accepts." | Choose the currencies this club accepts |
Go to payments opens your organisation's Settings > Payments. Choose the currencies this club accepts opens the club's currency settings. See Currencies and routes.
The step is ticked once the club is live. If your payment connection later loses its clearance, the step no longer shows a tick. It shows the matching "This club can't go live yet" message from the table above instead.
